Henry Scadding was a clergyman and book collector. He was born in England in 1813, but moved with his parents to Canada in 1821. In 1838 he was appointed to a tutorship at Upper Canada College and was ordained a priest of the Church of England. In 1847, he became rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity, a post he held until 1875. He was also a canon of St. James Cathedral.
